The Fort Collins Sustainability Group (FCSG)

FCSG successes to date:

· FCSG was instrumental in initiating formation of a “Climate Task Force” to develop measures to reach Fort Collins GHG reduction goals.

· In December of 2008, FTC adopted the task force’s Climate Action Plan (CAP).

· In January of 2009, FCSG successfully lobbied for an electric energy conservation goal exceeding the CAP by 50%.

· FCSG lobbied for a tiered residential electric rate to encourage efficiency. Success was achieved in 2011 when FTC adopted a three-tiered seasonal residential electric rate providing effective price signals.

· In 2012 and 2013, the FCSG successfully sought a ban on cardboard disposal in the city’s landfill, and adoption of solid waste diversion goals of 75% by 2020, 90% by 2025, and 100% by 2030.

· In 2015 FCSG was instrumental in founding the Colorado Coalition for a Livable Climate (CCLC). CCLC has grown to 45 member organizations throughout the State. CCLC advocates for legislation and strategies reducing Colorado’s GHG emissions to levels supportive of a livable climate.

· In 2017, FCSG efforts resulted in establishment of the Northern Colorado Partners for Clean Energy (NCP4CE). NCP4CE advocates for decarbonizing the electricity PRPA supplies to Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland.

· Partly due to pressure from NCP4CE, PRPA and its four member Municipal utilities approved in 2018 a goal of 100% non-carbon electricity by 2030.

· FCSG continues to work with CCLC, NCP4CE and encourage FTC to continue progress toward its GHG reduction goal.
